Manual Extract: Steering Cylinder Leak Test

This section provides step-by-step instructions to conduct a steering cylinder leak test. Follow the instructions carefully to diagnose and resolve any leakage issues effectively.

• Ensure the area around the center pivot is clear of all persons and obstructions.
• Park the machine on a level surface.
• Turn the machine fully to the right.
• Stop the engine and apply the parking brake.
• Locate the tube connected to the rod end of the left-hand steering cylinder and disconnect it.
• Install a plug in the disconnected tube.
• Start the engine and run it at full throttle.
• Turn the steering wheel to the right and hold it. Have another person check for leakage from the rod end of the left-hand steering cylinder.
• If constant leakage occurs, the piston packing in the left-hand steering cylinder is damaged. Repairs should be made (see Section 5005).
• Reconnect the tube to the rod end of the left-hand steering cylinder.
• Repeat the procedure for the right-hand steering cylinder, checking for leakage at the rod end.
