Manual Extract: Timing Gear Cover Removal
The following steps provide a guide to removing the timing gear cover on the DX31 and DX34 models:
- Drain the engine crankcase oil.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Detach the fuel shut-off solenoid from the engine block.
- Loosen the four injection pump mounting bolts, lift the injection pump slightly to remove the spring pin, and disconnect the governor link from the control rack. Remove the injection pump.
- Loosen the hose clamp on the suction hose and remove the return hose from the power steering unit.
- Remove the pressure tube from the bottom of the steering pump.
- Extract the through bolts to detach the steering pump from the front cover, then cap the lines and pump openings.
- Remove the retaining bolts and lift the timing gear cover off the locating dowels.
