Hydraulic System Maintenance: Addressing Overheating
Manual Extract: Hydraulic System Oil Too Hot
Step 1: Confirm Control Lever Use
a. Ensure the operator is fully engaging the control levers into the power position. If not, provide instruction accordingly.
b. If the levers are being used properly, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Inspect Hydraulic Oil for Contamination
Take a sample of the hydraulic oil and inspect it for the following signs of contamination:
- Appearance of dark and thick oil
- Scent of burned oil
- Presence of metal particles or dirt
- Indication of water in the oil
If any of these signs are present, the oil is contaminated. Please follow these steps:
- Drain the hydraulic system and clean the strainer (refer to page 11-79).
- Replace the oil filters (see pages 8-40 and 11-82).
If the oil is not contaminated, inform the next level of maintenance for further inspection and tests.
