Manual Extract: Compressor Testing
To ensure your compressor maintains peak performance, it’s crucial to conduct regular checks. In case of insufficient compressor power, follow these steps:
Key Features
- Narrow pressure line inspection for carbon deposits.
- Verification of system integrity for potential leaks.
Benefits
- Prevents unexpected breakdowns by identifying issues early.
- Improves the efficiency and longevity of the compressor.
- Reduces operating costs by avoiding unnecessary repairs.
Usage Recommendations
- If no apparent defects are found, remove the cylinder head and inspect the suction and pressure plates, along with their seals.
- High carbon buildup necessitates checking temperature conditions and compressor oil consumption.
- When replacing the compressor, inspect the discharge line. If fouled with carbon, replace it along with the pressure controller and air dryer if necessary.
Oil Consumption Check
With the engine warmed to operating temperature, adhere to the following steps:
- Disconnect the suction line.
- Disconnect the discharge line.
- Run the engine for approximately 2 minutes at half maximum RPM.
- Place a sheet of white paper securely in front of the compressor outlet, against the airflow, for 5 minutes at an engine speed of around 1500 RPM.
- If oil consumption is low, a light oil mist will appear on the paper. A concentrated black spot indicates high wear and elevated oil consumption within the compressor.
