Center Bearing Removal Procedure
- Park the machine on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Turn the machine to the right or left to access the center drive shaft easily.
- Loosen and remove the cap screws that secure the universal joint at the rear of the front drive shaft.
- Use a pry bar to disengage the universal joint from the yoke, then reposition the center drive shaft safely out of the way.
- With an assistant applying the brake pedal, loosen and remove the self-locking nut at the rear of the front drive shaft.
- Remove the hardened washer for further disassembly.
- Mark the alignment on the yoke and the front drive shaft’s end for accurate reinstallation.
- Detach and remove the yoke.
- Loosen the Allen screws on the inner race of the center bearing.
- If previously replaced, loosen the Allen screw in the locking collar of the center bearing.
- Clean rust or paint from the front drive shaft behind the center bearing, and apply a lubricant like WD40 to loosen rust.
- Remove the nuts and lock washers securing the bolts of the center bearing.
- Extract the bolts holding the arrangement in place.
- Use a hammer and chisel to carefully loosen the center bearing from the front drive shaft.
- Remove the center bearing entirely from the assembly.
