Renewal of Thrust Washers
Renewing thrust washers can be a crucial maintenance task to avoid engine damage. This procedure does not require removing the crankshaft and can be done as follows:
- Remove the sump, sump strainer, and the oil pump suction (refer to page L.2).
- Take off the center main cap and remove the two bottom half thrust washers (refer to Fig. H.1). The two top half thrust washers should be removed by sliding them out from one side. Ensure each thrust washer is marked to retain its respective position.
- To refit the thrust washers, oil the two upper halves liberally and slide them into the recesses provided on either side of the main bearing housing.
