Battery Disconnect Switch Functionality and Precautions
The battery disconnect switch plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and functionality of the machine’s electrical system. Here are the precautions you should be aware of:
- The system operating lamp will light up when the controller is activated. Even if the starting switch is turned OFF, the lamp remains lit during the KOMTRAX communication process.
- Avoid turning OFF the battery disconnect switch while the system operating lamp is on. Doing so can lead to data loss in the controller and potential severe damage.
- Do not switch OFF the battery disconnect switch while the engine is running or immediately after stopping the engine. If the switch is turned OFF during power generation by the alternator, overvoltage can occur, causing extensive damage to the electrical system, including electric devices and controllers.
- If the battery disconnect switch is turned OFF for an extended period, the machine monitor and the radio clock may reset, requiring reconfiguration.
Important Tips
- Always ensure the controller is OFF before disconnecting the battery.
- For long-term storage, consider the effects on system components and plan for necessary re-settings.
