Manual Extract – Removing Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies
When servicing the piston and connecting rod assemblies, follow these steps:
- Drain engine oil.
- Remove the rocker arm cover, rocker assembly, and cylinder head as previously outlined.
- Remove the oil pan.
- Disconnect and remove the oil intake line assembly along with the oil strainer.
- Turn the crankshaft until the desired piston is at the bottom of its stroke.
- Carefully remove any carbon deposits at the top of the cylinder liner bore.
- Check the upper piston ring travel area for any cylinder ridge, and remove if the cylinder liner is to be reused.
- Unbolt the self-locking nuts from the connecting rod bolts, and remove the bearing cap and bolts.
- Remove the piston and connecting rod assembly from the top of the block as illustrated.
