Manual Extract: Cleaning Crankshaft and Cylinder Block Internal Passages
After completing all crankshaft and cylinder block overhauling operations, it’s crucial to clean the lubricating oil passages. This can be effectively performed using Diesel fuel or by blasting compressed air into the passages.
Checking Crankshaft End Play:
Utilize a magnetic base comparator for this inspection:
- Attach the magnetic base and comparator onto the crankcase, ensuring the comparator feeler contacts one end of the crankshaft.
- Use a lever to move the crankshaft axially toward the comparator side until the comparator hand ceases to move.
- Reset the comparator, then push the crankshaft towards the opposite direction and note the end play reading from the comparator dial.
The ideal reading should be between 0.004-0.010u201d (0.10 to 0.27 mm). If the reading exceeds this range, fit spacing half-rings sized 0.004-0.008u201d (0.10 to 0.20 mm) over the nominal thickness. These half-rings are commonly available as spare parts.
