- Regularly perform leak tests as part of preventive maintenance routines.
Manual Extract: Cylinder Leak Check
Note: This procedure applies to all hydraulic cylinders except for angle cylinders with a bypass allowing a controlled leak past the cylinder seal.
- Start the engine. Extend the cylinder rod on the cylinder to be verified to its maximum stroke.
- Turn off the engine.
- Set the ignition key to the ON position. Ensure the parking brake lever is in the operating position. Adjust control levers to release hydraulic circuit pressure, then apply the right-hand parking brake lever. Finally, switch off the ignition key.
- Disconnect the hydraulic line from the end of the cylinder rod being tested. Cap the end of the hydraulic line securely.
- Attach a hose to the open port on the end of the cylinder rod. Position the hose’s opposite end into a container suitable for fluid collection.
- Restart the engine and hold the hydraulic control lever to extend the cylinder for testing.
- If oil flows from the port at the cylinder rod’s end, a leak is present in the seal.
