Manual Extract: Checking Piston Packing for the Steering Cylinder
Follow these detailed instructions to inspect the piston packing in the steering cylinder, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.
Steps to Check Piston Packing
- Engage the parking brake and completely lower the loader bucket to the ground.
- Turn the steering wheel fully to the right and then shut off the engine.
- Remove the hose located on the left side of the steering cylinder.
- Insert a plug into the disconnected hose. Note that the thread size required is 3/416.
- Restart the engine and set it to run at full throttle.
- Again, rotate the steering wheel completely to the right. Continue turning while someone inspects the open fitting for any signs of fluid leakage.
- If leakage is continuous, it indicates damaged piston packing, which will require repair. Please refer to Section 5003 for detailed repair instructions.
Usage Recommendations
- Regularly inspect the steering cylinder for signs of wear or damage.
- Ensure all repairs are carried out according to the manual to maintain the equipment’s longevity and performance.
- Consult professional assistance if uncertain about any steps or if the issues persist after initial repair attempts.
