Manual Extract: Removal of the Front Drive Shaft
- Remove the cap screws securing the center drive shaft to the yoke (16) at the back of the front drive shaft. Use a prybar to detach the universal joint from the yoke (16) and move the center drive shaft aside.
- Loosen the lock nut (9) and set screw (8) in the center bearing (10) of the housing (7).
- Detach the self-locking nut (15) and flat washer (14) securing the yoke (16) to the rear of the front drive shaft (1).
- Mark alignment on the yoke (15) and front drive shaft end (1) to ensure correct reinstallation.
- Use a suitable puller to remove the yoke (16) from the front drive shaft end (1).
- Clear any paint or rust from the rear of the front drive shaft (1) and apply penetrating oil to ease rust between the inner race and drive shaft (1).
- Unfasten the cap screws (2) securing the universal joint (3) to the front drive shaft (1).
- Utilize a prybar to detach the front drive shaft (1) from the universal joint (3) and remove it. If necessary, use a brass hammer to drive the front drive shaft (1) from the center bearing.
