Fault Code Diagnosis: Code SA 03 SPN 521469 FMI 02

This section provides a detailed diagnosis and solution for the Steering Motor Speed Sensor 1 Signal issue.

• Check the Sensor Adjustment
  1. Turn the key start switch to the “off” position.
  2. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the “off” position and remove the key.
  3. Remove, clean, and reinstall the speed sensor.
  4. Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the “on” position.
  5. Operate the engine at low idle and check for active diagnostic codes.

  Expected Result: SPN 521469 FMI 02 is not active.

  Solution: If active, proceed to the next steps.

• Check the Return Circuit
  1. Turn the key start switch and battery disconnect switch to “off.” Remove the key.
  2. Disconnect the speed sensor from the harness.
  3. Check resistance from connector contact 2 to frame ground. Expected: less than 5 ohms.

  Solution: If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair or replace the harness.
